Pool water, shade and splashed chemicals keep the surround damp. Sandstone, travertine and limestone then grow a green or black film. That film is the slip hazard, and it hides the colour of the stone.
Clean first, then seal
We wash the surround with a method that suits the stone, let it dry, and seal it when you want the protection. Sealing a dirty surface traps the stain. The same order applies to driveways, which is covered in our driveway sealing guide.

Which pool surrounds can you clean?
Sandstone, travertine, limestone, concrete and pavers around the pool. Wet stone grows mould quickly, and that film is slippery.
Should sandstone around a pool be sealed after cleaning?
Yes, once the stone is clean and dry. A sealer slows the return of mould and makes the next clean easier. We do not seal a surface that is still dirty, because the sealer locks the grime in.
